Jon Scheyer is getting the red carpet rolled out for him in Chicago, Illinois.

The Duke men’s basketball head coach is giving his team an unofficial tour of the Windy City. He stopped at the famous hot dog restaurant The Wieners Circle on Sunday afternoon for lunch, then got a social media shoutout.

The Wieners Circle posted on X: “Thank you to coach Jon Scheyer, aka 2006 Mr. basketball of Illinois, aka white Mike, for bringing in Duke Men’s basketball for lunch”

The Blue Devils visited the state of Illinois ahead of Tuesday’s game at Notre Dame. Duke is coming off a 68-63 upset win over Michigan in Washington D.C. The Wolverines were previously ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY coaches poll, and now the Blue Devils are the top-ranked team in the country.

Duke is also working out and practicing at the Chicago Bulls Training Facility.

Scheyer, known for his high school basketball career in the Chicago area, is no stranger to the people of central Illinois, either.

During his final two years at Northbrook Glenbrook North, Scheyer made a pair of appearances at the Peoria Civic Center for the Class AA state finals. He won the 2005 Class AA state championship on the strength of a 27-point effort as Glenbrook North beat Carbondale, 63-51, in the state title game.

Former Northbrook Glenbrook North player Jon Scheyer moves around Michael DeWalt of Carbondale in the 2005 Class AA state title game at Carver Arena in Peoria.

The 2006 Illinois Mr. Basketball then returned to the River City for his senior season. He faced off against Derrick Rose in the 2006 Class AA quarterfinals, but saw his career ended with 18 points in a 61-44 loss to Chicago Simeon.

His 3,034 career points upon graduation put him at No. 4 all-time for most career points in Illinois High School Association history. A two-time Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year, Scheyer was named to the 100 Legends of Illinois Basketball in 2007.
