Cade Cunningham is leading the Detroit Pistons to be the best record in the East and just signed a deal with Nike for a new signature shoe.
Cade Cunningham and the Detroit Pistons entered the NBA All-Star break as the top team in the Eastern Conference. When they returned on February 19, the Pistons were set to take on the New York Knicks.
Once again, Detroit was a team on a mission, looking to take out the club that knocked them out of the playoffs in six games last season.

“Came out the All-Star 42-9 at the Garden, owning the New York Knicks,” Green said on his podcast.
“Cade Cunningham owns the New York Knicks. And you know how he plays, like, man, he’s making everybody better. He’s scoring the basketball. He’s so poised. You can’t speed him up. It’s so fun to watch. Like the way he is revived Detroit basketball is insane.”

Against the Knicks, Cunningham checked in for 38 minutes. The star guard shot 17-34 from the field and knocked down five three-pointers. He wrapped up the game by scoring 42 points. Cunningham nearly notched a triple-double, coming down with six rebounds and producing 13 assists.
The Pistons handled the Knicks with ease, picking up a convincing 126-111 win. They moved to 37-12 with Cunningham in the lineup this year, maintaining their spot as the No. 1 team in the East.

Through three battles this season, the Pistons have gone 3-0. The last time the Knicks defeated the Pistons during the regular season was on November 1, 2024.

Green is right that Cunningham typically has dominant showings against the Knicks, but the fact that he hasn’t lost at Madison Square Garden, one of the most prominent venues in the history of the game, since February 2024 is an impressive feat to have on his MVP campaign.
The latest NBA MVP ladder (before the break) featured Cunningham as the No. 4 player. He trailed Luke Doncic, Nikola Jokic, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

When ESPN released its MVP straw poll, Cunningham was third. Basketball Reference has placed Cunningham in the same spot, with a 2.7 percent chance of winning the award.
This season, Cunningham has appeared in 49 games. Seeing the court for 34.9 minutes per game, the star guard has shot 46 percent from the field and drilled 33 percent of his threes. He is averaging 25.5 points per game, along with 9.8 assists and 5.8 rebounds.
The Pistons will return to the floor on Monday, February 23, to face the San Antonio Spurs. Cunningham and the Pistons are looking to notch six wins in a row.
