Wembanyama Powers Spurs Past Pistons, Winning Streak Hits Nine

The Spurs defeated the Pistons 114–103 on February 23 in Detroit, powered by Victor Wembanyama’s dominant interior presence and Devin Vassell’s perimeter explosion. The rematch is set for March 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Frost Bank Center.

The San Antonio Spurs walked into Detroit on February 23 and played like a contender, defeating the Detroit Pistons 114–103 to extend their winning streak to nine games.

Victor Wembanyama anchored everything. He finished with 21 points, 17 rebounds, and six blocks, controlling the paint defensively and cleaning up possessions on the glass. Detroit repeatedly attacked the rim — and repeatedly ran into Wembanyama. His shot-altering presence changed the rhythm of the game, especially during key stretches in the second half.

On the perimeter, Devin Vassell erupted for 28 points, drilling 7-of-11 from three-point range. His shooting spaced the floor early and forced Detroit to extend its defense, opening driving lanes and keeping the Spurs’ offense flowing.

San Antonio finished with 18 made three-pointers and moved the ball with purpose, piling up assists and consistently finding the open man. Rookie guard Stephon Castle added 11 assists, helping orchestrate an offense that never stalled for long.

The game turned physical in the second half, with technical fouls assessed as emotions flared. Detroit made a push to cut the lead to single digits, but the Spurs responded with defensive stops and timely shooting to regain full control.

Now riding nine straight wins, San Antonio sits near the top of the Western Conference standings and will look to keep the momentum going Wednesday, February 25, on the road against the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena.
