The Philadelphia 76ers finished their 3-game road trip with a 135-114 thrashing of the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday night. The Sixers did what they were supposed to do which is take advantage of a lowly Pacers team missing many key pieces.

The Sixers used a big second quarter as they outscored the Pacers 45-27 and opened the quarter on a 24-2 run led by Tyrese Maxey. The star guard scored 12 of his 32 in the second quarter to help Philadelphia really build a lead and put the Pacers in a tough position.

All in all, Maxey finished with 32 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. Also, he didn’t have to play in the fourth quarter which is a big deal for the man who leads the NBA in minutes. This is also a second consecutive really good game for Maxey after a tough stretch in terms of shooting the ball.

“I think he started the game again with a little bit of, OK, this feels different again, a little bit, right?” coach Nick Nurse told reporters after the win. “Got him out early in the fourth, much earlier than normal, to bring him back later in the fourth, and then he was part of the group that kind of went good, and I just think he did what he does.”

Maxey didn’t shoot it well from deep as he shot just 2-for-8 on his 3-pointers, but the two he did make caught Nurse’s eyes. He liked that his star guard got them in transition and pulled up rather than driving in for a contested layup.

“He shot a couple 3s,” Nurse added. “The two he made were both kind of fast break ones. I think he stole the ball on both of them and slammed on the brakes and hit them, but I thought he was really good inside the line tonight. He had good decisions. He had a couple post ups, some other things that we haven’t seen that much up from him. So, he just kind of got on the hot streak there.”

Maxey appears to be back on track as he looks to lead Philadelphia up the standings in the East. The Sixers have an important matchup with the Miami Heat on Thursday back at home.
