The trade deadline has come and gone in the NBA and despite chatter about adding another star beside Anthony Edwards, Minnesota Timberwolves general manager Tim Connelly’s main move was to add Ayo Dosunmu to the rotation.

The Wolves are now 36-23, but have hardly looked like a team destined to make their third straight trip to the Western Conference finals.

Obviously, the hope is that the team can get back there, but play will need to be elevated by the rotation as a whole for it to be possible.

Knowing Chris Finch’s tendency to play veterans and Minnesota’s postseason aspirations, it’s unlikely those outside of the main eight-nine man rotation will factor in much to the Wolves’ stretch run. Nonetheless, president of basketball operations Tim Connelly continues to add potential options for the future.

Jules Bernard signs two-way deal with Minnesota Timberwolves

Now 26 years old, Jules Bernard was a four-year player for UCLA during his collegiate career. He averaged 12.8 points per game as a senior, but that wasn’t enough to get him drafted.

At 24, he played in 19 games for the Washington Wizards during the 2023-24 season, but has not surfaced in the NBA since. On Wednesday, however, he got a step closer to the big time when he signed a two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The 6’6” Bernard operates — who operates mostly as a shooting guard — is represented in part by former Minnesota Timberwolves member, Joe Smith (yes, that Joe Smith).

Across 24 G-League regular season games this year, he’s averaging 25.2 points per game, a number only trumped by four others. Down in Iowa, Bernard is shooting 43.1% from the field and 35.1% from deep thus far this year.

On a two-way contract, Bernard earns just over $600,000 and can be shuttled between the NBA and G-League. Among the most notable two-way players across the NBA in recent seasons is Los Angeles Lakers guard, and son of LeBron, Bronny James.

Bernard joins both Rocco Zikarsky and Enrique Freeman as talents signed to two-way contracts currently on the roster. He’s unlikely to see the floor at Target Center this season, but the rewarding payday doesn’t hurt.
