A Malden High School employee is facing two counts of felony rape of a high school student, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan confirmed.Scott Marino, 54, of Stoneham, was arrested Wednesday and is accused of sexually assaulting and giving alcohol to an 18-year-old who was known to Marino on Feb. 18, in Stoneham. Marino is a Linden School educator and the head coach of the girls’ basketball team at Malden High School, Malden Public School Superintendent Timothy Sippel said. According to Sippel, the incidents allegedly occurred outside of working hours and involved a Malden high school student. A woman who played under Marino for four years on the girls’ basketball team told NewsCenter 5 that she could not believe the allegations. “Very, very shocked,” she said. “It’s something that I would have never expected at all because I knew him for four years and he was somebody that I looked up to, and he was a great mentor. It’s hard to try to process.”NewsCenter 5 reporter John Atwater stopped by a home in Stoneham, where neighbors said Marino lived with his wife. A woman came to the door, but turned around and shut off the lights inside and outside of the home.Marino is also facing one count of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over and one count of selling/delivering liquor to a person under 21, Ryan said.”The district is fully cooperating with relevant law enforcement agencies in their investigation, which is ongoing,” Sippel wrote in a statement. “I understand how upsetting and distressing this is to our community, given the serious nature of these allegations. We thank you for your continued commitment to our students and our district community. The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority.” Marino was placed on leave from Malden Public Schools when the district was notified of the allegations.Marino will be arraigned in Woburn District Court on Thursday.
