ROCK HILL — As the regular season comes to an end for Winthrop’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, the university’s baseball, softball and lacrosse seasons are underway.

Men’s Basketball

Winthrop 68, USC Upstate 64

Winthrop took down USC Upstate in a two-score victory on Feb. 19. The game was a close throughout with lead changes at pivotal moments. Winthrop closed the game with a well-placed layup by Logan Duncomb.

Senior center Logan Duncomb led the game with 24 points, 16 rebounds and four assists.

Winthrop 87, High Point 89

Winthrop’s win streak came to end in a two-point loss to the High Point Panthers. Winthrop was at a deficit the entire match and managed to rally in the last few minutes of the second half, though they were unable to follow through with a comeback.

Senior center Logan Duncomb led the effort with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Senior guard Kareem Rozier had three assists by the end of the game.

Winthrop 84, Charleston Southern 86

Winthrop lost to Charleston Southern by two points in their second loss in a row. Winthrop kept a consistent lead through the start of the first half, but lost their footing going into the second.

Senior guard Daylen Berry had 21 points by the end of the game. Senior forward Ed Nnamoko ended with 10 rebounds while senior guard Kareem Rozier had five assists.

With the loss against Charleston Southern, the team’s record is now 20-10.

The men’s basketball team’s next and final game of the season will be at home against the Presbyterian Blue Hose on Feb. 28 at 4 p.m.

Women’s Basketball

Winthrop 75, Longwood 65

Winthrop pulled off an upset against Longwood on Valentine’s Day. In the first half, the match was fairly even with small leads being gained by both teams. The Eagles took over in the second half and managed to break away for a massive lead, resulting in a victory.

Junior guard Amourie Porter put up 27 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Cori Lard aided in the win with eight total assists by the end of the game.

Winthrop 72, Presbyterian 59

By a score margin of 13 points, Winthrop took home a win against Presbyterian. Throughout the game, Winthrop maintained a steady lead.

Junior guard Amourie Porter had 22 points and six rebounds while senior guard Cori Lard had four assists.

Winthrop 59, UNC Asheville 64

Winthrop fell to UNC Asheville. The game kept steady in the first quarter but the game quickly shifted in favor of UNC Asheville in the later quarters.

Sophomore guard Madison Ruff ended the game with 17 points while junior guard Amourie Porter had 11 rebounds and two assists.

With that loss, their record is now 13-16.

The women’s basketball team’s next and final game will be an away game against the Charleston Southern on Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.

Baseball

Winthrop 11, Marshall 7

Winthrop secured a comeback win against The Herd at Founders Field on Feb. 23. By the third inning, Winthrop was down by five runs. They turned the deficit around in the fifth inning by scoring five runs. They extended the lead even further by scoring five more runs in the eighth inning.

Sophomore catcher Cade Norton had two RBIs by the end of the game.

The victory brought their overall record to 6-2. They’ve won four straight games.

The baseball team’s next three games will be at home against the Maine Black Bears from Feb. 27 to Mar. 1.

Softball

Winthrop 4, USC Columbia 5

Winthrop fell to South Carolina by a single run on Feb. 25. Winthrop led into the third inning with four runs, but the lead was swiftly dropped in the fourth and fifth innings when USC responded with four runs of their own. USC closed out the game with one more run in the sixth inning as Winthrop was unable to respond.

Junior outfielder Tia Beckham had one run and two RBIs by the end of the match.

The loss brought their record to 7-8.

The softball team’s next few games will be away against West Georgia, Seton Hall, George Mason, and Furman at the Paladin Invitational from Feb. 27 to Mar. 1.

Lacrosse

Winthrop 13, Davidson 17

Winthrop fell to Davidson in a competitive showdown at Eagle Field. The match was close in the first two quarters with Winthrop trailing by only one goal by the start of the second half, but Davidson broke away in the third quarter with five goals to Winthrop’s two.

Sophomore midfielder Ava-Claire Collins and senior attack Tori Iannotti both had three goals by the end of the game.

The loss brought their record to 2-2.

The lacrosse team’s next game will be an away game against the Charlotte 49ers on Mar. 4 at 4 p.m.
