An NBA trade idea sending Michael Porter Jr. from the Brooklyn Nets to the Detroit Pistons has been created.

NBA writer Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Nets and Pistons:

Detroit Pistons get: Michael Porter Jr.

Brooklyn Nets get: Tobias Harris, Caris LeVert, a 2026 first-round pick and a 2030 first-round pick swap

This NBA trade idea can’t happen now since the trade deadline has passed. However, it could happen in the offseason.

Porter Jr. is better suited to play for a playoff team at this stage of his career. The Pistons have the top record in the Eastern Conference, while the Nets are in 14th place.

Many people around the NBA believe Brooklyn made a mistake by not trading Porter Jr. at this year’s trade deadline, as the forward’s value might be lower in the offseason.

A one-time NBA champion, Porter Jr. is averaging 24.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game this season while shooting 47.3% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc and 85.6% from the free-throw line. He’s one of the best shooters and pure scorers in the league.

The Pistons would have a talented core of Porter Jr., Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren if Detroit’s front office traded for Porter Jr., who will make $40.8 million next season in the final year of his contract.

“Porter Jr. could thrive as a release valve for Cade-Duren pick-and-rolls, but he’s proven capable of far more in his lone season with the Brooklyn Nets,” Bailey wrote. “He can score off the bounce and even provide some secondary playmaking in ways we never really saw when he was with the Denver Nuggets. Detroit’s offense, currently 10th in the league, would look much closer to championship caliber with MPJ at one of the forward spots.”

If the Pistons don’t win the championship this season, they could look to make a blockbuster trade in the offseason. It will be intriguing to see how far Detroit goes in the 2026 playoffs and if Porter Jr. is a player management targets in the offseason should the team fall short of its goals this season.
