The Philadelphia 76ers lost more than just a game on Saturday when they fell to the Atlanta Hawks 125-116. The Sixers lost Tyrese Maxey to a hand injury with just 16 seconds to go. That is the concern of everybody at the moment as Philadelphia will have to hope that Maxey is going to be OK.
In the aftermath of the loss, coach Nick Nurse spoke with reporters and gave his reaction to the injury to Maxey.
“Obviously, it’s huge, right?” Nurse told reporters. “Especially, with what we got going on right now, with some of the guys out, and obviously, he’s just another key player, but we’ll see. We’ll see. I won’t make any judgments or think about that until we find out for sure.”
The Sixers are already missing Joel Embiid, Paul George, and VJ Edgecombe. They can ill afford to lose Maxey, too, at this stage of the season. Philadelphia dropped to the No. 8 seed in the play-in tournament with this loss to the Hawks and it has a matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers looming on Monday to complete a 2-game road trip.
Per Tony Jones of The Athletic, Maxey will get his testing done on Sunday.

For Nurse and the Sixers, the hope has to be that this injury won’t be a big long term thing.
“You don’t want any of that stuff to happen,” Nurse finished. “Guys do get hit on the hands quite a bit, and jammed fingers and all kinds of stuff. So, let’s hope that’s what it is.”
