The Brooklyn Nets are fresh off arguably their best win of the season after coming back from 23 points down to beat the Detroit Pistons 107-105 on Saturday. Brooklyn has to be feeling good about itself given how rough the season has been since January began, but it looks like they will have some injury issues to bear as they try to extend their winning streak.
The Nets announced on Sunday that forward Michael Porter Jr. and rookie guard Egor Demin are out for Monday’s matchup against the visiting Memphis Grizzlies due to their respective reasons. Porter will be missing Monday’s contest against the Grizzlies as the team is electing to rest him while Demin continues to recover from an injury to his left plantar fascia.
Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez recently spoke on Demin’s recovery and described what he is dealing with as fasciitis, but the team has not listed Demin as out for that reason as of this writing. “He’s struggled with plantar fasciitis, and the soreness has increased lately. So we’re being cautious and trying to figure out what’s the best way for him moving forward,” Fernandez said prior to Saturday’s win at the Pistons.
Porter is coming off one of his better games of the season as he dropped 30 points and 13 rebounds in 39 minutes during Saturday’s comeback win in Detroit. Porter has struggled with his shooting efficiency in recent weeks, but he has been providing the scoring that this team needs in order to win games against tough opponents like the Pistons. With Porter out of the rotation for Monday’s game against Memphis, forwards Ziaire Williams and Danny Wolf could be candidates to draw the start.
Lastly, rookie guard Ben Saraf is probable for the matchup due to back tightness, but with Demin out of the lineup, Saraf may have to push through his ailments to provide some minutes as the backup point guard. Rookie forward Drake Powell was recalled from the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, and he could see some playing time given that the Nets will be facing a Grizzlies team that will be missing plenty of rotation players for the contest.
