NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets (17-48) had the chance to taste victory for the past two games after beating the Detroit Pistons (46-18) and Memphis Grizzlies in various fashions. Brooklyn had a tough matchup ahead with the Pistons visiting them on Tuesday looking for revenge after they blew a 23-point lead on Saturday. It looks like Detroit responded to the challenge given by head coach JB Bickerstaff after that game.

The Nets lost to the Pistons on Tuesday 138-100 in a game where Brooklyn trailed by as many as 43 points to a Detroit team that had guard Cade Cunningham back in the lineup to cause some havoc. Forward Michael Porter Jr. led the way for the Nets with 19 points and two rebounds while forward Jalen Wilson took advantage of the extra playing time he received with his 14 points and three rebounds.

The Nets went into the second quarter trailing the Pistons 38-27, but it looked like Brooklyn was going to be able to stay within striking distance despite Cunningham dropping 10 points and four assists in the first period. However, the second quarter is where this game got out of hand for Brooklyn as they lost the period 35-13 despite trying to match Detroit’s physicality by committing 12 personal fouls, including a flagrant-1 foul by rookie guard Nolan Traore.

The Nets actually managed to play virtually even with the Pistons in the second half as they lost the final 24 minutes by just a 65-60 margin, but the problem is that Brooklyn already faced a 33-point deficit from the first half. Not only did Cunningham (21 points, 15 assists) have his way throughout the night, but center Jalen Duren (26 points, four rebounds) dominated on the inside with little to no resistance from Brooklyn’s defense.

Ultimately, the Nets faced an opponent in the Pistons that was looking to end its four-game losing streak while also avenging one of their more disappointing losses in what they hope could be a championship season. Brooklyn understandably came away from this loss frustrated, but the season continues with a road matchup at Jalen Johnson and the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday.
