LaVar Ball was always a high believer and the biggest supporter of his three sons, Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo. Whether you love him or hate him, the success he managed to get out of his sons can’t be denied.
As LaVar always says, since they were children, the three Ball brothers were destined for greatness. That greatness was shown as early as during their high school days when the trio won the national championship together, making history with a perfect 35-0 record, all while being a public school in Chino Hills, California.

Fast forward to today, Ball has succeeded in making all three of his sons successful in their own right. Lonzo and LaMelo have been consistent parts of the NBA for some time and although LiAngelo had a short stint in the league, he has smoothly transitioned into the rap scene.
Like any parent, Ball never lost faith in his sons, especially LiAngelo, where he still believes he can revive his basketball career, but only under one term, which would also profit Lonzo and LaMelo.
“I look at Charlotte and be like, ‘Man, y’all had Gelo’ and now they like, ‘Oh, Kon [Knueppel] can shoot.’ What do you think Gelo can do? Man, Charlotte got a great chance, that if they see this I dare ’em, I ain’t gon’ say I dare ’em, they need to get all three [Ball brothers],” LaVar said on Lonzo and LiAngelo’s “Ball in the Family” podcast.

The best NBA team ever?
With his controversial takes, it’s safe to say LaVar can get ahead of himself most of the time. Still, he isn’t new to this kind of marketing; one could even say he is a publicity mastermind.
After all, that’s something that has helped him put his boys on the map, which they later used to showcase their immense talent and game, leading to their impressive feat as young prospects.
However, the NBA is incomparable to any other level of basketball, especially high school, but LaVar isn’t buying that narrative.

“I guarantee y’all that the game will be so fast you can’t keep up with it. They became the best team in high school as babies. What do you think they can do as grown men? They would score 40 to 50 points per quarter playing that style. We pressing the whole game. We can drop in the 2-3 zone, we’ll speed the game up, we gon’ double-team everything. That system can’t be beat. I been showing the boys that system since they been babies. You don’t think they ain’t perfected that thing so fast?” LaVar said.
“I never taught them to play by themselves. I taught them to play together. You let them play together and I guarantee they will become the best NBA team ever. The fact that it’s a new era, they gon’ press. You can press with three, ‘cuz the other two gon’ blend in,” he added.
The achievements of the three brothers can’t be denied, but to say they would become the best NBA team ever seems completely irrational. Considering LaVar coached his sons throughout most of their lives and led them to the top of youth basketball, if he can become a coach of the Charlotte Hornets, anything is possible.

The current state of the Ball brothers
As of late, the Hornets have undergone a historic midseason turnaround and are one of the hottest teams in the NBA. They transformed their 11-22 start to a 33-33 record, which started with a historic nine-game winning streak, the franchise’s longest since 1999.
The team is looking to build off their recent success and compete for a play-in spot at the end of the regular season, with LaMelo leading the way with 19.3 points and 7.3 assists.

Lonzo, on the other hand, is still being affected by injuries and is arguably playing the worst basketball of his career. Recently, he became a free agent after being waived by the Cleveland Cavaliers at the trade deadline and is still waiting to get called up by a team. Before he got waived, some reports suggested a possible reunion on the Hornets with his brother, which would have been the second-to-last piece of LaVar’s puzzle.
LiAngelo continues to make a name for himself in the rap world after his successful single “Tweaker” took the world by storm, which earned him a multi-million dollar deal with Def Jam Recordings. In February, he dropped his latest single, “Backyard Ball.”
Despite the fans’ wishes to make LaVar’s proposition a reality, we probably won’t see it come to fruition, especially considering LiAngelo’s long absence from basketball and Lonzo’s questionable career state.
