The Boston Celtics will look to thwart Shai Gilgeous-Alexander from breaking an impressive NBA record on Thursday night.

Gilgeous-Alexander has scored at least 20 points in 126 consecutive regular-season games for the Oklahoma City Thunder. The reigning MVP can break a tie with Wilt Chamberlain if he extends that streak against the Celtics.

Gilgeous-Alexander began the historic stretch when tallying 30 points against the Portland Trail Blazers on Nov. 1, 2024. He settled for 18 in the previous contest versus the Portland Trail Blazers.

The star guard fell short of 20 twice last postseason, but he averaged 29.9 points per game and exceeded 20 throughout a triumphant seven-game NBA Finals with the Indiana Pacers.

Gilgeous-Alexander has remained a beacon of consistency this season, reaching 20 in all 54 games played. His 31.7 points per game ranks second to Luka Doncic, and it comes with a career-high 66.7 true-shooting percentage.

The 27-year-old had a close call when scoring exactly 20 points in 28 minutes during a lopsided win over the Orlando Magic on Feb. 3. After missing the next three weeks with an abdominal strain, he’s returned to score at least 26 in each of his last five games.

Boston won’t make it easy on SGA, as the Celtics enter Thursday allowing an NBA-low 107.2 points per game. They have held six of their last 10 opponents to 100 points or fewer.

Thursday’s colossal matchup between the Celtics and Thunder starts at 9:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Boston and Prime Video.
