MIAMI – The dimming postseason hopes for the Milwaukee Bucks could be effectively turned out over the next couple of games, as they face two teams in front of them in the Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks. And unfortunately for the Bucks, both teams are the hottest in the Eastern Conference.

First up are the Heat, who have won six in a row and eight of 10 to climb into the playoff picture and is No. 6 in the East. The Bucks head into the Kaseya Center tonight, March 12, having lost seven of their last 10.

Milwaukee hasn’t won on the road since Feb. 20 in New Orleans.

Is Giannis playing?

Yes.

The Bucks star is not on the injury report after logging about 32 minutes in a loss to Phoenix on March 10. It appeared he turned an ankle early in the game and then late in the game, Bucks head coach Doc Rivers said the star was hit in the groin area but did not reinjure any muscles. Antetokounmpo missed time earlier this season with a left adductor strain and two calf strains.

Despite not overtly pulling any muscles, Antetokounmpo looked winded and not very explosive as the game wore on. He scored 22 points on 10 of 18 shooting and only had six rebounds and three assists.

What is the Bucks record with Giannis?

Heat center Bam Adebayo dunks against the Milwaukee Bucks during an NBA Cup game at Kaseya Center on Nov. 26, 2025.

The Bucks’ locker room was quiet after another disappointing loss on March 10, but like most places around the league, news of Miami center Bam Adebayo’s 83-point effort against Washington that night had already filtered through by the time players met with the media. It is the second most points scored in an NBA game, behind Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 in 1962.

“Sick,” Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma said. “I’m just happy for him. That’s insane. Honestly. I don’t think; that was on nobody’s bingo card to have Bam score that many points. But I’m so happy for him. That’s amazing. Amazing accomplishment. Anytime you could say you’re over Kobe on something is crazy.”

Kobe Bryant set the “modern” scoring record with 81 in 2006.

Bucks head coach Doc Rivers opened his postgame presser asking, “Is it true a human being had 83 points tonight?

“Bam had 83 points? Wow. That’s unbelievable.”

Rivers smiled.

“Well, that’s who we play next so at least I get to watch the prep tape. It’ll be interesting. Wow. Eighty-three points. That’s amazing.”

The Bucks are the first team to play the Heat after Adebayo played 42 minutes against the tanking Wizards, against whom he set NBA records for free throws made (36), free throws attempted (43). He also put up 22 3-point attempts (tied for third all-time).

Giannis Antetokounmpo noted that in the future, few will recall the exact details of the accomplishment, just the number.

“I don’t remember how many shots Kobe shot or how many free throws he made or how many threes,” said the Bucks star, who holds the single-game franchise record with 64 points scored vs. Indiana in 2023.

“All you remember is 81. Wilt, 100. You don’t remember that (detail). At the end of the day he got 83 points and obviously – did they win?”

He was told the Heat did.

“Good,” Antetokounmpo continued. “Great way to help your team win a game. I know that his family, his close friends are extremely excited and happy for him and again it speaks volumes in his hard work. I know Bam. He works his butt off every single day. He never cheats the game and seeing a guy like him doing something like this is incredible.”

When pointed out the Bucks get Adebayo next Antetokounmpo quipped, “We’ll do our best for him to score 82, not 83.”
