The Philadelphia 76ers paid a visit to the Utah Jazz on Saturday night looking to earn a much-needed win to finish their 3-game road trip. The Sixers had a chance to get a 2-1 road trip following the tough night in Denver to begin the trip and the lowly Jazz offered a great opportunity for Philadelphia.
The Sixers had their issues with a scrappy Jazz team, but they were able to eventually walk away with a 126-116 win over the Jazz and head home with some momentum. Philadelphia was able to earn the win despite Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Kelly Oubre Jr. continuing to be sidelined.
The Sixers were led by Quentin Grimes who had 25 points and five rebounds, VJ Edgecombe had 22 points and career-high 13 rebounds, and Trendon Watford had 20 points and nine rebounds. Adem Bona added 16 points and Cam Payne had 16 and seven assists.
Here are the player grades following the win:
VJ Edgecombe: A
The rookie had some impressive buckets in this one. He is such a mature player for his age and there were plenty of times when he would dictate things on offense by putting the ball on the floor and getting to his spots. He knocked down shots in the mid-range and also got to the basket often and attacked the glass which was a big help. He came up with some big buckets in the fourth quarter and he was tough for the Jazz to stop when it mattered most. His work on the glass in this one was terrific as well.

The explosive shooting guard put the ball on the floor early and often in this one. The Jazz have a leaky defense and Grimes was able to find success in this one either by finishing at the basket or getting fouled which led to a successful offensive night for him. He was efficient with his offense, was helpful on the glass, made plays with his passing, and had some good defensive moments. There were some head-scratching turnovers, but other than that, Grimes was helpful in this one.
Justin Edwards: C
Edwards had a tough night defensively. He was able to contribute on offense by knocking down a 3 and was able to get to the basket. It wasn’t a great night for him in terms of efficiency, but he found a way to contribute for Philadelphia and be impactful.
Dominick Barlow: Incomplete
The Sixers lost Barlow in the first quarter due to an ankle sprain. He was in obvious pain and Philadelphia ruled him out early.
Adem Bona: B-plus
It was a tough start to the night for Bona as he picked up three quick fouls in the first half. The Jazz found a lot of success against him and when he picked up his fouls, he was sent to the bench and it limited his effectiveness. He was fantastic in the second half as he was a presence in the paint and the Jazz couldn’t contain him. He made a big difference in the third quarter to help Philadelphia build momentum.
Trendon Watford: B
The initial stint for Watford was a mixed bag. He gave the Sixers some production offensively by going to work in the post and giving Philadelphia some stability in that respect, but Utah targeted him defensively and it led to some struggles on that end of the floor. While he scored well and attacked the glass, but the defensive struggles were a big issue. To his credit, he was terrific in the second half when filling in for Barlow and gave the Sixers some helpful production.
Cam Payne: B-plus
The veteran guard hopped off the bench and immediately went to work. Payne knocked down two open triples and then was fouled on a 3-pointer which led to him knocking down all three free throws. He then knocked down a big 3 in the fourth to keep Utah at bay. The scoring Payne brought off the bench was important as he gave the Sixers an offensive punch against this pesky Jazz team.
Andre Drummond: B-minus
The veteran big man produced well off the bench in this one. He was helpful on the glass, he was tough defensively, and he gave a physical presence in the paint for Philadelphia. The real issue for him in this one was his inability to finish around the basket on the offensive end of the floor. Other than that, Drummond was solid.
Jabari Walker: B-plus
The Sixers turned to Walker after the Barlow injury and he gave some good production on both ends of the floor. He was able to come up with some quick buckets and was helpful on the glass and made some plays with his passing as well.
MarJon Beauchamp: B
Once again, Beauchamp hopped off the bench and gave the Sixers some strong defensive play. He moved his feet, attacked Utah’s perimeter ball-handlers, and got to the line on the offensive end. Beauchamp continues to be a productive player for coach Nick Nurse and Co.
