Never say never.

Steph Curry has spent his entire 17-year NBA career with the Warriors, and he’s stated on multiple occasions that he would like to retire with Golden State. But in a recent interview with WSOC-TV, a local news station in Charlotte, N.C., he shared that he always will keep his options open.

Those “options” really appear to be only one other “option,” referring to his hometown team, the Hornets, where his father, Dell Curry, is a franchise legend and whose No. 30 jersey is being retired on Thursday at Spectrum Center.

Dell shared that Steph already had asked him if he’d make an exception to wear No. 30 should the Warriors star leave Golden State for Charlotte, to which Steph further detailed the reasoning behind the conversation.

“You always keep your options open,” Curry said on WSOC-TV. “I know what that means when you get your jersey retired, it’s immortalized. Nobody should be able to touch it, but yeah. I’m sure he’d be able to make a special exception if that was the case.”

Curry couldn’t help but grin and even chuckle while responding.

Steph Curry on asking his father Dell if there could be an exception for him once the #30 goes into the rafters in Charlotte:

The Hornets will retire Dell Curry’s No. 30 jersey.
Seth Curry was last to wear it.
Dell was asked if Steph every played for the Hornets, could he still wear it:
“He already asked me that, that was a quick yeah. We’d take it down for that, no doubt.”

His younger brother, Seth Curry, fulfilled Dell’s dream of playing for his Hornets during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.

Steph has been asked a number of times about the possibility of joining the Hornets, but a 2022 interview turned some heads.

“Everybody asks me, ‘You want to play one year for the Hornets and come back?’ … I am not breaking any news right now, I’m not making any promises,” Curry said. “All I would say is if there was a team that I did want to play for that was not named the Warriors, that would be it.”

Steph is under contract with Golden State through the 2026-27 season.

While it’s likely that Curry will end his illustrious NBA career in the Bay, it’s evident that he will continue to keep his options — or option — open.
