The Los Angeles Lakers saw their winning streak come to an end on Monday, falling 113-110 to the Detroit Pistons in a tightly contested game. The loss snapped what had been a strong run and exposed some cracks, particularly on the defensive end. The Lakers were without Marcus Smart for the matchup, and his absence was noticeable as Detroit capitalized on key moments late in the game.
Smart’s defensive presence had been a key part of the Lakers’ recent success, and without him, the team struggled to contain Daniss Jenkins, who erupted for a career-high 30 points. Defensive breakdowns in the closing minutes ultimately proved costly, as the Lakers were unable to get crucial stops when it mattered most.
As the Lakers prepare for their next game, the team provided an update on Smart’s status.

On Tuesday, the team released its injury report and listed Smart as doubtful for the upcoming matchup against the Indiana Pacers.
While the Lakers are still expected to handle the Pacers, who currently sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with the league’s poorest record, Smart’s potential absence removes one of their most reliable perimeter defenders. His ability to disrupt opposing offenses and provide toughness has been a key component of the team’s identity during their recent stretch.
There was at least one positive development for Los Angeles. The Lakers upgraded Rui Hachimura, who also missed Monday’s loss due to right calf soreness, to questionable for the Pacers game.
His potential return would provide a boost on the offensive end, where he has been one of the team’s most efficient scorers this season.
The Lakers will aim to use the Pacers matchup as an opportunity to reset. With 10 games remaining, they will look to maintain their hold on the third seed in the Western Conference.
