Not a lot of people likely saw former Boston Celtics two way point guard Max Shulga getting elevated to a full roster spot this season. Especially after the Ukraine native started his Celtics career as a two way player spending most of his time in the G League. But Shulga has looked good playing with the Maine Celtics, where he has recorded 15.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.9 assists, and 1.3 assists per game.
“It’s been a grind of a season for sure,” said the VCU alum. “A lot of ups and downs … but … a lot of learning. Getting more comfortable and in the system with the guys, getting comfortable, being on the court in the NBA setting, NBA rules and stuff like that, the pace of the game for sure.”

“And then, individually, working on shooting, shooting 3s in the pocket, finding looks on the perimeter,” continued Shulga. “And, overall working on my game, either like in the paint, touch shots, floaters, learning to make consistently the reads of pick and roll and stuff like that,” added the Celtics guard. “So, yeah, it’s been a lot of learning, for sure.”

As to how he managed the ups and downs of his rookie campaign, Shulga replied, “just knowing that’s going to happen – it happens to everybody.”
“Nobody goes through a season perfectly, continuously on the rise,” he added. “So knowing that it’s going to happen, and it doesn’t change who you are as a player, overall.”
“It’s just you have good games, you have bad games, you want to try and have more good games than bad games, and they’re just what it is. The most important thing is just showing up every day and just putting in work consistently day by day and winning the day – so that’s what it’s about, I think.”
“Not focusing on the result and more focusing on just day-to-day process,” said Shulga.
