Doc Rivers and the Milwaukee Bucks suffered their third straight loss on Saturday, falling to the San Antonio Spurs, 127-95.

Gary Trent Jr. and Myles Turner led the way for Milwaukee, combining for 33 points on 13-of-23 shooting. It was far from enough, though, as the Bucks suffered another deflating blowout loss at home.

Milwaukee had no answer for Victor Wembanyama, who turned in a routine 23-point, 15-rebound double-double in 31 minutes of action. The Bucks also failed to contain Stephon Castle, who went off for 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

The Bucks dropped to 29-44 after Saturday’s loss.

The bad news for Milwaukee is that it has now been officially eliminated from playoff contention. This has been a long time coming, but the news became official after the Bucks’ latest loss.

Rivers spoke to reporters after the game, and the veteran coach shared his reaction to the development.

“It’s been disappointing, obviously,” Rivers said. “Since I’ve been here, I haven’t had a healthy stretch and it’s been your key guys. It’s been Giannis [Antetokounmpo]. It’s been [Damian Lillard].

“And you hope you can play through that, but we just haven’t had the ability. This year, having only one quote-unquote star, every other team has two and three. We needed health. We were thin. We knew that before the season started, and it just didn’t go our way.”

Rivers also noted that “all the talk and all that stuff” didn’t help either. Apart from injuries, the Bucks also had to deal with a lot of rumors this season. At one point before the February trade deadline, it appeared that Antetokounmpo was well on his way out.

“But I always try to look at silver linings and Ryan [Rollins] is one of them,” Rivers continued. “Pete Nance is another one. “Ous [Dieng] is one of them.

“And we gotta rehabilitate or get AJ Green going again. He’s a good player. He’s played too many minutes. We’ve had no choice and I think that’s put him in a tough spot and I feel bad for him at time.

“Bobby [Portis] was Bobby. He’s been a pro throughout this year. We had a great talk today about it before the game. I’m just so proud of him as a leader. He tries to do the right stuff. He tries to say the right things in the locker room. So, there’s some good things in there.”

Rivers did his best to highlight the silver linings of what has been another wasted season for Antetokounmpo and the Bucks. Nevertheless, it’s going to be a very interesting offseason for Milwaukee’s front office.

The Bucks are back in action on Sunday on the second night of a back-to-back set. They will host the Los Angeles Clippers at Fiserv Forum.
