Michael Malone backs SGA’s case to win the back-to-back NBA MVP honors.

Michael Malone is all in about Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s candidacy to win this season’s Most Valuable Player award.

On NBA Countdown, the former Denver Nuggets championship coach explained his arguments on why SGA deserves to win the back-to-back honors.

“He’s proven himself to be the best clutch player in the NBA,” Malone said about Gilgeous-Alexander. “He’s got five game-tying or go-ahead field goal makes in the last 30 seconds, and he’s got a chance to be the first guard ever to average 30 points per game while shooting 55 percent from the field. You talk about consistency—20 points every single night against a defense that is trying to game plan for you.

“No disrespect to Wemby, Nikola Jokic, and everybody else, but I think SGA is incredible in his ability to impact the game in all shapes and forms. It feels like the discussion.”

Gilgeous-Alexander finds his name slipping over Victor Wembanyama in the latest MVP rankings, but the Canadian superstar earned himself the most favorable arguments to ultimately win the race.

SGA is averaging 31.6 points in 55.3 percent shooting with 6.5 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals across 64 games, leading the Thunder to the top of the NBA standings despite the injury inactivity of co-star Jalen Williams for most of the year.

He also made compelling historic feats of his own, notably surpassing the late great Wilt Chamberlain for most consecutive games tallying 20+ points.
