Only one team across the NBA has had a better win-loss record over the last 10 games than that of both the Los Angeles Lakers (+9, -110) and reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder (-9, -110), who collide on Thursday night in a Western Conference showdown. Los Angeles enters as a nine-point underdog on the road, despite having just one loss since March 6, along with a relatively clean injury report.

Here’s an expert pick and prop pick for this matchup at the Paycom Center on April 2, 2026, including an OVER (-120) on an assists prop (4.5) for Austin Reaves.

Lakers vs. Thunder Expert Pick TonightLos Angeles Lakers +9 (-110)

It’s quite surprising that the Lakers are near double-digit underdogs on the spread on Thursday. They’re 13-1 over their last 14 outings, with 10 successful covers sprinkled throughout. This number is the second-largest of the 2025-26 campaign painting them as an underdog, which has never been a good look for the purple and gold. The team is 4-11 SU and ATS when entering as an underdog of at least 3.5 points, and that number worsens to 2-5 in both departments when the spread is at least 7.5 points. With Los Angeles not competing on the second night of a back-to-back slate, the belief is that all three of Luka Doncic (O31.5 points, -130), LeBron James (O17.5 points, -102), and Austin Reaves (O19.5 points, -104) will be in uniform, as Marcus Smart is the only player currently sidelined, which has been the case since March 21. That three-headed monster wasn’t at the Lakers’ disposal in either of their previous two encounters with Oklahoma City this season, both of which resulted in defeats of at least nine points.

The Thunder haven’t lost a home game since Feb. 12 in a 110-93 defeat at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks, and that came with all three of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (O30.5 points, -125), Jalen Williams (O18.5 points, -102), and Isaiah Hartenstein (O6.5 points, -128) out of action. They’re deservedly the heavy favorites here to win outright, possessing a net rating of 11.6, which is a full four points better than Los Angeles’ over this 10-game stretch. However, covering a 9.5-point spread is another beast altogether, and something the team has had a hard time pulling off in general, regardless of the number oddsmakers have posted. A 15-1 record SU is a remarkable feat, but what’s worrisome for bettors of the team is that they’re just 4-12 ATS, with not even a single instance of consecutive covers. Oklahoma City went a perfect 9-0 during that 16-game stretch when the spread was 9.5 points or greater in its favor, but only two covers stemmed from that success.

With two looks at the Thunder over their next three games, and the Denver Nuggets still within arm’s reach of snagging the No. 3 seed, the Lakers aren’t in a position to be laying down to close out the season against any formidable foe. Tonight’s festivities should be far more competitive than oddsmakers would give it credit for, so while Oklahoma City is deservedly favored in its backyard, I anticipate Los Angeles giving them the business and, at the very least, pushing the champs to the brink.

Lakers vs. Thunder Prop TonightAustin Reaves OVER 4.5 Assists (-120 at BetMGM)

While he only registered four assists in the Lakers’ recent 127-113 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, that box score actually marked just the second time in 15 games in which Austin Reaves failed to finish with at least five dimes. He’s only third on the roster in assists during this stretch at 6.1, which is behind both Doncic (7.3) and James (7.2), as are his potential assists at 8.5. However, Reaves has toppled Thursday’s mark of 4.5 two of the last three times he’s battled the Thunder, finishing with seven in the latest encounter back on Feb. 9. With Luguentz Dort hounding him down, the 27-year-old guard may be forced out of a shot attempt or two, resulting in what could be an extra assist here or there on the road.
