LeBron James is now calling for the Memphis Grizzlies to ‘just go over to Nashville’.
NASHVILLE, Tenn (WZTV) — The future Hall-of-famer made comments on a YouTube show Thursday expressing disdain for the city and calling for the Memphis Grizzlies’ move to Nashville.
He says at age 41, he doesn’t want to spend weeknights in a hotel in a city like Memphis, expresses the many amenities that the city of Nashville has to offer, and says had the Grizzlies drafted him in 2003, he would have request an immediate release.
“You think I want to do that sh–? Being in Memphis on a random a– Thursday?”
This comes after star players like Anthony Edwards, Draymond Green, and others have expressed their disdain this year for the city hotels such as the Westin across the street from the Forum, and pushed for the move to Nashville.
Star Anthony Edwards says the hotels “ain’t nothing in Memphis” and called the hotels “dirty”.
In 2023, Draymond Green was close to joining the Memphis Grizzlies. LeBron convinced him to stay in Golden State, amongst other factors including trades falling through.
Memphis Mayor Paul Young released a statement via X regarding LeBron and other media member’s comments on the move:
FedEx executive Richard Smith says he believes the Grizzlies will stay in Memphis and confirmed he would have been interested in buying the team to keep it in Memphis if it were for sale.
The Grizzlies have a lease at the FedEx Forum expiring in 2029. State and city leaders are negotiating half a billion dollars in renovation funds to keep the team in Memphis.
