The Chicago Bulls are in the midst of a total restructuring. On Monday, the news broke that Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Arturas Karnisovas and GM Marc Eversley were fired.

As a result, the future of head coach Billy Donovan remains up in the air. Despite rumblings that he was in line to be the head coach at North Carolina, Michael Malone was hired.

But one Bulls’ insider has come up with a dream scenario. According to Joe Cowley of The Chicago Sun-Times, he is hoping that Donovan will become the VP and that Tom Thibodeau will return as head coach.

“What would be the perfect Joe Cowley early Christmas present … Billy D says he’s had enough coaching – takes over VP role … hires Thibs to coach (yes, the two like each other)” Cowley posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Meanwhile, Cowley officially confirmed that Thibodeau has worked things out with the Reinsdorf family and John Paxson following his bitter departure in 2015.

“Thibs and Paxson have mended that bridge long ago, he posted. “Same with Thibs and the Reinsdorfs.”

Donovan has been the head coach of Chicago since 2020. Since then, he has led the Bulls to the playoffs one time in 2022. That year, they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round. Meanwhile, the Bulls have struggled to reach 40 wins in a season and have seen significant roster turnover.

Under Thibodeau, the Bulls made the playoffs twice in 2011 and 2015. In 2011, with Derrick Rose as MVP, they reached the Eastern Conference Finals.
