The Cleveland Cavaliers are on the road to take on the Atlanta Hawks on Friday. Both Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen are listed on the Cavs’ injury report as out for the second game of this home-and-home series, and Sam Merrill will also miss the rematch. Atlanta, on the other hand, has almost a perfectly clean bill of health.

Here’s everything we know about Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen’s playing status vs. the Hawks, along with their teammates.

When it comes to the question of whether Donovan Mitchell is playing tonight vs. the Hawks, the answer is no. Cleveland’s All-Star guard put on a show in his most recent performance, notching 31 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and a block.

Mitchell was constantly getting downhill, finishing around the rim, and finding his way to the free-throw line, just as he did in his previous contest against the Indiana Pacers. Still, Mitchell fully twisted his right ankle late last Sunday, and the Cavs want to be cautious about it.

Jarrett Allen has toughed it out after missing a month of action with right knee tendinitis, but he’s been physically restrained by the injury over the last week.

“Listen, I know he’s going through some stuff, and we’ll get feedback [Thursday] and see where we’re at,” Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson said postgame on Wednesday. “There’s a reason he missed games. And I saw it tonight, too. I agree. So we’ll get feedback for him, get him some treatment. See where we’re at.”

Although he’s managing the pain and proving serviceable, it’s wise to give Allen extra days to heal as much as possible. The good news for Cleveland is that Jaylon Tyson, who is listed as questionable, is ramping up his recovery from a left great toe bone bruise.

“I think this one is more like, get to conditioning because he had to be off court for a while,” Atkinson said. “But he’s gotten into some real 4-on-4 or 5-on-5s, 3-on-3. But I think this was a case of, let’s get him one more of those, and get the conditioning level where it needs to be. So, hoping it’ll be good for this next game coming up here.”

Sam Merrill and Thomas Bryant will also be out of action for the Cavs.

Aiming to avoid the NBA Play-In Tournament, the Hawks will only be missing one rotational player in Jock Landale, who is dealing with a sprained right ankle.
