Michigan star point guard Elliot Cadeau will return to the Wolverines next season per a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
The report echoes what was previously reported on The Michigan Insider and others when Cadeau told reporters he planned to return this season. However, it is now official and Dusty May will be getting back one of their most important pieces off of a championship roster.
Cadeau, who transferred to Michigan this year from North Carolina, blossomed throughout the year and became the Wolverines’ most valuable player down the final stretch of the NCAA Tournament, netting the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. He is only the second player in program history to earn that honor alongside former star Glen Rice, also in a championship effort.
The Wolverines are certain to lose Yaxel Lendeborg, Nimari Burnett and Roddy Gayle Jr. as they are out of eligibility. Freshmen Winters Grady and Malick Kordel have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. The staff did add Tennessee transfer JP Estrella on Thursday afternoon and now all eyes will turn to forward Morez Johnson Jr. and center Aday Mara; both are well within reason to test the NBA Draft waters with Mara in particular drawing some lottery projections according to certain outlets.
Cadeau ended the season averaging 10.5 points and 5.9 assists with those numbers inflated to 12.3 and 7.5 respectively in the tournament.
