Mizzou men’s basketball is reportedly expected to hire Tim Fuller as its first-ever general manager.
Marc Spears, a senior NBA writer for ESPN’s Andscape, reported Sunday on X that Fuller will be named the Tigers’ GM, per an Andscape source. An MU spokesperson could not confirm this report.
Ben Arnet of KOMU8 and Drew King of PowerMizzou.com both verified the hiring with a source.
The Mizzou Athletics X account reposted Spears’ report but then quickly removed it.
Fuller and the Tigers are no strangers to one another with the former serving as an assistant coach for the latter from 2011-15. He was promoted to associate head coach under former coach Frank Haith on April 25, 2012.
Fuller’s recognition for his work on the sidelines did not end there, as he was named to ESPN’s Myron Medcalf’s list of the top 10 assistant coaches age 40 and under May 10, 2012.
Fuller served as MU’s interim coach for the first five games of the 2013-14 season after Haith was suspended by the NCAA due to involvement in the Nevin Shapiro scandal.
Fuller led the Tigers to a 5-0 record during Haith’s suspension with wins over Southern Louisiana (89-53 on Nov. 8, 2013), Southern Illinois (72-59 on Nov. 12, 2013), Hawaii (92-80 on Nov. 16, 2013), Gardner-Webb (72-63 on Nov. 23, 2013) and IUPUI (78-64 on Nov. 25, 2013).
His final season with the program was under former coach Kim Anderson.
Fuller held an 85-51 overall record during his four campaigns in Columbia, featuring NCAA Tournament berths in 2012 and 2013.
After his stint at Missouri, Fuller was hired as the president’s advisor on athletic matters at Harris-Stowe State, where he served in the position from 2015-20.
Fuller worked as a marketing director for Nike from 2008-10, before being hired as an assistant under former Louisville coach Rick Pitino at the Adidas-backed program on June 27, 2010. Fuller also was as an assistant at North Carolina A&T (2000-01), Elon (2002-04), Wake Forest (2004-06) and Fairfield (2006-07).
Fuller acted as Overtime Elite’s director of scouting and recruiting from 2021-23.
Former Mizzou standout and current Providence coach Kim English hired Fuller to serve as an assistant May 22, 2023. Fuller helped the Friars to a 33-34 overall record in his two seasons with the program.
Mizzou posted the GM job listing April 9, stating the position would be responsible for “overseeing talent acquisition to enhance the cohesiveness of the team,” “managing the player personnel aspects of the program, such as recruiting talent, roster management, and NIL opportunities” and other administrative responsibilities within the program.
The posting came on the heels of NBA players Stephen Curry, Trae Young and Terance Mann becoming assistant general managers of Davidson, Oklahoma and Florida State, respectively.
The Tigers could follow suit and open an assistant GM position, which could set the stage for Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. to fill the role. Porter spent one season at Mizzou and played high school basketball at Tolton.
Porter’s younger brother Jevon became the fifth Porter to wear the black and gold when he transferred to the Tigers from Loyola Marymount on March 27.
Fuller fills one of two remaining administrative positions, leaving only the assistant director of basketball operations role open after Nick Korta’s departure to VMI on April 10.
With Missouri holding one remaining scholarship spot to reach its 15-player roster limit, Fuller could put his recruiting prowess to use early in his second stint with a key final addition from the transfer portal.
Mizzou offers 4-star guard Bouie
Missouri continued its expedition to land its first recruit from the Class of 2026.
SPIRE Academy guard Tarris Bouie III announced that he received a scholarship offer from the Tigers on May 19.
“Blessed to receive a Division I offer from the University of Missouri!” Bouie wrote in a post on X.
The 6-foot-6 Geneva, Ohio, product checked in as the No. 93 overall prospect in the Class of 2026, according to 247Sports.
Bouie also holds offers from notable programs such as Alabama, Ole Miss, Marquette, Cincinnati, Wake Forest and Samford.
