The Brooklyn Nets have signed Jordi Fernandez and his entire coaching staff to multi-year contract extensions, the team announced Monday.

“Jordi is a tremendous leader who, along with his coaching staff, put his stamp on this franchise from the moment he arrived in Brooklyn,” said Nets General Manager Sean Marks. “Over his first two seasons, Jordi has built a strong foundation rooted in player development, a competitive spirit and honest communication, all of which have been embraced throughout our roster. The energy and passion the entire staff relentlessly pour into our players reverberates throughout the organization, and we are excited to have this group continue to lead our franchise into the future.”

Despite a clear focus on draft position in the early stages of a rebuild, Brooklyn exceeded expectations at points during the last two seasons under Fernandez.

The Nets opened the 2024-25 campaign 9-10 before trading veterans Dennis Schroder and Dorian Finney-Smith. With the NBA’s youngest roster, they posted a 7-4 record with the league’s best defensive rating in December this season.

Meanwhile, several players have showcased impressive development in Fernandez’s offensive system.

Cam Johnson had a career-best season in 2024-25 before the Nets traded him to the Denver Nuggets for Michael Porter Jr. and an unprotected 2032 first-round pick last summer. Porter turned in a career-best campaign this year, averaging 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists on .463/.363/.859 shooting splits across 52 appearances.

Fernandez had an impressive track record in player development during stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings before joining the Nets. Brooklyn featured an NBA-record five rookie first-round picks this season and will welcome another top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Without control of their 2027 first-round pick, the Nets will attempt to take a step back towards the playoffs next season.
