The New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks meet Thursday for Game 3 of their first-round NBA playoff series. Tip-off from Atlanta, Georgia, is set for 7 p.m. ET (Prime Video). Let’s analyze NBA odds around the Knicks vs. Hawks odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions for the best bets.
Best-of-7 series: Tied 1-1
After a 113-102 loss in Saturday’s opening game, Atlanta pulled off an improbable comeback Monday to win Game 2 107-106 while covering as a 6-point road underdog with the Under (217.5) cashing. The Hawks trailed all game and were down by 12 entering the fourth quarter, but they held the Knicks to just 15 points while scoring 28 to crawl back and come away with the win. G CJ McCollum led the Hawks with 32 points.
G Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 29 points, but he was outplayed by McCollum, who scored easily every time Brunson was guarding him. F Karl-Anthony Towns scored 14 points in the third quarter, but disappeared in the fourth, putting up 0 points in 8 minutes. The Knicks shot just 22.7% in the final quarter, and allowed the Hawks to go on an 11-0 run.

Knicks at Hawks picks and predictionsPrediction
Knicks 107, Hawks 105
LEAN KNICKS (-115).
In spite of how Game 2 ended, the Knicks are still the better and more talented team. That was a sloppy loss, and it was troubling for many reasons, but the Knicks can simply out-talent the Hawks. Nobody on the Hawks can hold Brunson for a long stretch of time, and if Towns ever remembers he’s 7 feet tall, he’ll have an easy 30-point game.
It took a Herculean effort from McCollum, as well as a phenomenal bench outing from F Jonathan Kuminga (19 points on 7-of-12 shoting), for the Hawks to win, and even then, the Knicks still had a chance at a game-winner that they simply missed. It will be more difficult for Atlanta to replicate that win than it will be for the Knicks to replicate Game 1, so feel confident in the better team winning here.
PASS.
With the way the last game went, the Hawks losing by just 1 point to cover here isn’t out of the realm of possibility, but I would still lean toward the Knicks to cover as -1.5 (-105) favorites. This series has been too competitive to feel confident in backing either team with the spread set so tightly, so pass and bet on the moneyline and/or total instead.
BET UNDER 215.5 (-110).
The Under is 7-3 in the last 10 games between these squads, hitting in the last 4 matchups. For New York, the Under is 8-2 in its last 10, including cashing in all of its last 4 games. For the Hawks, the Under is 6-3 in their last 9.
New York has the guys defensively to keep F Jalen Johnson and G Nickeil Alexander-Walker under wraps, which will help the Under continue to hit in this series.
There is more risk here than in the first 2 games of this series, mostly because I expect the Knicks to have a hot start, something that could snowball into this becoming a high-scoring affair.
