NBA Insider Shams Charania revealed the New York Knicks’ plans and approach for their roster changes during the 2025 Offseason. The Knicks recorded a remarkable season as they made their third straight playoffs appearance. While the Knicks were in pursuit of their third NBA Championships, they were knocked out by the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. Having finished the season third in the standings, this was the best result recorded by New York in over 25 years.

Following their elimination, the Knicks now enter a crucial offseason, where they will make some changes around their roster, and would plan to add more talent during this summer. ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed what the New York-based could be expected to do heading into the offseason.

As per Charania, the Knicks will have internal meetings which will evaluate everything, from their players to their coaches. He stated that while the players and the management are supportive towards head coach Tom Thibodeau, they will maintain an aggressive approach towards the roster. He stated, “I’m told the Knicks have internal meetings this week to evaluate everything…especially the roster…Jalen Brunson & front office fully supportive of Tom Thibodeau but I do expect them to be very active & aggressive on the roster.”

Former NBA Player Gives His Verdict on Tom Thibodeau

Former NBA player Chandler Parsons gave his verdict on Tom Thibodeau and opined that he would get another chance at the Knicks. He said, “I think his job is safe. I think he deserves to come back. I mean, look at his record in his five seasons. Yes, we can nitpick the load management. We can nitpick the depth issues that the Knicks have had, the overusage rate of Jalen Brunson, and the injuries that they’ve had. But that’s not fair.”

He added that the Knicks would commit a huge mistake if they let go of their head coach. He opined, “At the end of the day, this team went to the Eastern Conference Finals and lost to a team that they arguably thought they were better than. It would be a huge mistake and disservice to fire him and let him go after the success that he’s had there in five seasons.”

Apart from Parsons, sports commentator Stephen A. Smith also shared his take on Thibodeau’s future with the two-time champions. He said that Thibs has proven himself as a good coach who helped the franchise improve over the years.

Speaking on First Take, Smith said, “The New York Knicks should not move on from Tom Pibido. He has proven to be a damn good coach who has helped resurrect this franchise from basketball purgatory. We’ve seen progressive improvement from this team throughout the years, getting bounced out in the first round, getting to the second round, get into game seven of an Eastern Conference semi-finals last year, and getting into game six of a conference finals this year. We’ve seen progression.”

The 57-year-old went on to say that it would be a very ungrateful move by the Knicks if they let go of Thibodeau. Smith stated, “And I’m not telling you I mean if you’re telling me that Tom Thib needs to go, I say that’s being ungrateful. That’s being unfair to him.”

Notably, Thibodeau was signed by the Knicks in 2020 after he served as the head coach of the Chicago Bulls and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
