Last week, Yolo County Assemblywoman and majority leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry welcomed the Woodland Christian girls basketball team to the State Capitol to present them with a resolution recognizing the team’s recent CIF Division V State Girls Basketball Championship title.
Aguair-Curry recognized the team during the Thursday, May 7, session.
The Cardinals, who won a program record 33 wins and finished the season as undefeated Sierra Delta League champions, defeated Laguna Hills 63-30 back on March 13 to win back-to-back state championships. They remain the only school from Yolo County with a state championship in girls’ basketball.
On their way to the championship, the Cardinals defeated Oakland 69-43, Palma 37-35, John Adams Academy 56-46, Modoc 46-36, and Laguna Hills.
Members of the team include Annabell Baker, Ellie Sumner, Sofia Sorbello, Kylee Bihlman, Kellie McNichols, Kiley Ibarra, Kinsy Rainwater, Isabel Du, Siena Sorbello, Bailee Broward, and Annaliese Van Mouwerik.
The coaching staff includes Trisha Hayes, Rebecca Williams, Samantha Sorbello, Megan Kritscher, head coach Shiloh Sorbello, and Isaac Rainwater.
