The Washington Mystics defeated the Toronto Tempo on Friday night, 86-85 at CareFirst Arena thanks to a Sonia Citron game winner. More on that in a bit.
Washington was in control for most of the game and led by as many as 18 at one point. However, the Tempo made a furious comeback in the fourth quarter with Marina Mabrey scoring 18 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter to get Toronto leading by one point during the period after former Mystics guard Brittney Sykes scored a layup with 11.1 seconds left.
Washington did get a jump ball with 2.1 seconds left with Citron making the dagger.
Citron finished with 17 points including the game winner. Lauren Betts led Washington with 18 points off the bench. The win gets the Mystics to a 5-6 record while the Tempo fall to 7-6.
