As reported by NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Timberwolves are now working for a new deal to extend their partnership with the upcoming free-agent guard.
“Minnesota’s Ayo Dosunmu is yet another and league sources say that the Timberwolves are already at work to try to hash out a new deal that keeps their influential midseason acquisition in the Twin Cities,” Fischer wrote.
Ayo Dosunmu stands as the Wolves’ biggest 2026 offseason priority
Ayo Dosunmu is set to become an unrestricted free agent with a $7.5 million expiring salary.
The team’s trade deadline acquisition this past 2025-26 season, Dosunmu impressively delivered for the second half of the season in Minnesota, registering 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 24 games.
He is well-known for stepping up and embracing a pivotal role in the Wolves’ first-round series win against the Denver Nuggets, erupting for 43 points in their Game 4 win despite the injury exits of Donte DiVincenzo and superstar Anthony Edwards.
During his end-of-season address, Minnesota president Tim Connelly made it clear that their priority is to re-sign Dosunmu.
As such, the Wolves can only be optimistic about their chances of retaining the promising guard with a brand-new contract that would satisfy both sides.
