Texas A&M’s 2024 basketball season served as the final campaign for Buzz Williams as the program’s head coach, as he departed for the Big Ten to become Maryland’s newest head coach after Kevin Willard left for Villanova just days after the Terrapins departed the NCAA Tournament after losing to Florida in the Sweet 16.

Williams, who was reportedly personally vying for the Maryland job, didn’t receive a ton of flack for leaving after six seasons, mainly due to his lack of success in the NCAA Tournament after consecutive losses in the second round.

Still, Williams deserves credit for turning the program around, which included recruiting and landing senior point guard Wade Taylor IV, who ended his Aggies career as the program’s all-time leading scorer after his final season in College Station.

Taylor’s 2,058 points won’t be broken for a long, long time, as his four seasons included 141 games played, while he averaged double-digit scoring in his final three seasons, including nearly 20 points per game during his 2023 junior season. Taylor’s speed, instincts, and clutch shooting have provided a pathway towards a pro career, as the Dallas, Texas native has entered the 2025 NBA draft, which we all expected.

Taylor is no doubt a Texas A&M legend, and his official send-off, joining fellow senior guard Manny Obaseki, spoke volumes about the man from a leadership perspective. While his size may be an issue for some teams, I’d be shocked if he weren’t at least in the G League by this time next fall.

The 2025 NBA draft will begin on June 25 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
