Forever immortalized in basketball lore, the Oklahoma City Thunder have reached the first anniversary of their 2025 NBA championship. June 22 was Sharpied into history as they had a 103-91 Game 7 win over the Indiana Pacers to capture their first Larry O’Brien trophy.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander went on to win NBA Finals MVP. Along with the 2024-25 MVP award, he completed one of the most accomplished individual seasons ever with a championship ring. The 27-year-old continues to pencil his all-time legacy as one of the best players of the current era.
Elsewhere, Jalen Williams established himself as an All-NBA talent. He dropped an unreal 40 points in OKC’s Game 5 win over the Pacers. He was compared to Scottie Pippen and nobody scoffed at the thought. Chet Holmgren also fought through physical ailments to tally an NBA-record five blocks in their Game 7 win over Indiana.
The Thunder went a historic 68-14 in the regular season. They had an all-time best plus-12.9 point differential. Throughout the year, OKC was the best team in the league.
On their way to an NBA championship, they swept the Memphis Grizzlies in Round 1; outlasted the Denver Nuggets in a seven-game series in Round 2; gentlemen-swept the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals; and beat the Pacers in a Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
