Former Iowa basketball star Payton Sandfort was waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday. Sandfort was then added to the Thunder’s NBA Summer League Roster, alongside fellow former Iowa standouts Bennett Stirtz and Josh Dix.
Sandfort, a 6-foot-7 guard and forward, joined the Thunder as an undrafted free agent in 2025, where he mostly played for its G League team, the OKC Blue. Sandfort averaged 11.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game on 38.7% field goal shooting, 34.2% 3-point accuracy and 84.2% free-throw shooting in 20 games played with the OKC Blue.
Sandfort inked a two-way deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder on March 2 and appeared in four games near the end of the regular season, averaging 8.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game on 50% field goal shooting and 41.2% from 3-point land.
The Thunder begin NBA Summer League play against the Memphis Grizzlies at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday in the Salt Lake City Summer League.
