The Warriors are not expected to make a trade this offseason, but they plan to remain flexible and could become buyers in 2026-27 if Curry, Butler, and Green keep them in contention.

The Golden State Warriors are not expected to make a trade before the start of the 2026-27 NBA season, but that does not mean they are done monitoring the market.

After missing out on LeBron James, Golden State still has work to do around Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green.

However, according to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel on the Clutch Scoops podcast, the Warriors are not currently expected to force a trade this offseason.

“Trades, I would say no,” Siegel said. “I don’t think that we’re going to see the Warriors make a trade this offseason.”

“I don’t see any trades in their immediate future, but they do have some salary spots to fill,” Siegel added.

Instead, the Warriors are expected to focus on filling out the back end of the roster with minimum-contract signings.

Siegel noted that Golden State has three open roster spots and around $8 million to work with before reaching its hard cap at the apron.

Warriors expected to stay opportunistic during season

While a trade is not expected right now, Golden State’s approach could change during the 2026-27 season.

Siegel said the Warriors are expected to monitor the market and stay flexible heading into the trade deadline.

“I do think that they’re going to look to be very opportunistic during the year and heading into the trade deadline,” Siegel said.

The team’s direction could depend heavily on health and performance. If Curry, Butler, and Green are healthy and the Warriors are in the playoff mix, Golden State could look to buy.

“They’re definitely going to be looking to be buyers, assuming that everybody’s healthy and that they’re playing well,” Siegel said.

However, if the season goes badly, the Warriors could take the opposite approach.

“If things take a turn, Steph Curry gets injured, they’re the bottom team in the West, maybe they become sellers, and they look to just try to get as many assets as possible to really hit 2027 free agency hard,” Siegel said.

That leaves Golden State in a wait-and-see position.

Golden State has flexibility for future moves

The Warriors’ current situation is also tied to their long-term flexibility.

Earlier in the podcast, Siegel noted that Golden State is not financially locked into a roster it cannot change. That gives the franchise optionality at the trade deadline and next offseason.

“The Warriors are not tied down financially,” Siegel said. “They will have flexibility heading into the trade deadline. They will have flexibility heading into next offseason.”

That flexibility may not lead to another superstar chase right away, especially after the Warriors missed out on several major names.

“They’re used to being involved in these big stars and in these kind of markets where it’s Giannis, Jaylen Brown, Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Davis, LeBron,” Siegel said. “They’ve missed out on all of them.”

Because of that, the Warriors may now have to build differently around Curry.

“And now they have to kind of adapt to what this organization’s thinking and what Joe Lacob and Mike Dunleavy Jr. see working,” Siegel said. “And that is finding the necessary depth next to Steph Curry to make this a championship team once more.”

Warriors previously tried for Trey Murphy

Golden State has already shown a willingness to explore trade opportunities when the right player is available.

According to Siegel, the Warriors were among the teams that reached out to the New Orleans Pelicans about Trey Murphy III earlier this offseason.

“Multiple teams have reached out to the Pelicans this offseason,” Siegel said. “The Warriors were one of them, and they offered two first-round picks for Trey Murphy around the time of the NBA draft.”

However, New Orleans rejected the offer and wanted more.

“Pelicans said no, that they want more value,” Siegel said. “They want at least three [first-round picks], and they want some type of player that could fit their system and wind up replacing Trey Murphy there.”
