The Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx are getting a new owner, after Marc Lore sold his majority share in the franchises at a $4.5 billion valuation.
Sports franchises have become an incredibly popular investment in the past decade. Many teams in the NBA, as well as the WNBA, have new owners.
The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Minnesota Lynx share a majority owner, Marc Lore, who bought the team alongside Alex Rodriguez from Glen Taylor in 2021.
Within just five years, Lore is moving on from the venture. Shams Charania broke the news on Friday that both the Wolves and the Lynx would have a new face at the top moving forward.

Marc Stad has owned a minority share in the Timberwolves for a while, as part of the ownership group alongside Lore and Rodriguez.
Now, he’s made a move to become the largest shareholder, and thus the controlling owner of the Timberwolves after buying a big chunk of Lore’s holdings.

This is unlikely to change much in the immediate term for the Timberwolves, although new owners always bring their own ideas of how things need to be done.
