One of ESPN’s daily studio shows failed to come on the air on Wednesday due to technical difficulties.
NBA Today, which typically airs each weekday at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN, never made it to air on Wednesday afternoon, with the ESPN ticker indicating the show was experiencing technical difficulties.
The show, which was slated to air on ESPN2 on Wednesday while the main ESPN channel broadcast a live MLB game, instead gave way to a re-air of Big Day with Peter Schrager, the network’s new 2 p.m. ET show. The technical difficulties were clearly unexpected, as Schrager tossed to NBA Today host Hannah Storm at the end of his show, only for the re-air of Big Day to start instead.
It is quite uncommon for an entire hour of programming to be missed due to technical difficulties. Throughout the first 33 minutes of the Big Day re-air, the ticker indicated that NBA Today was “currently experiencing technical difficulties,” before the network appeared to throw in the towel and update the ticker to say the show will return tomorrow at its regularly scheduled time.

Wednesday’s issues were audio related, Awful Announcing has learned, and have been addressed ahead of Thursday’s episode, which is scheduled for ESPN.
It’s worth mentioning that NBA Today recently moved its operation to the NFL Network studios in Inglewood after emanating from ESPN’s L.A. Live studio space for many years. ESPN gained control of the NFL Network’s Hollywood Park facilities following its acquisition of the network and subsequently decided to consolidate its West Coast operations there.
Whether the tech issue was at all related to the move is unclear, though it seems like whatever the hangup was will not be an issue come tomorrow.
