The Denver Nuggets haven’t been involved in many large-scale scuffles in recent years, but have brought some guys on who wouldn’t hesitate to get involved in one if the opportunity presented itself. J.R. Smith got his hands dirty at Madison Square Garden back in 2006 in a fight that netted three different suspensions for the Nuggets — including 15 games for Carmelo Anthony — but there haven’t been many altercations since then.
When the Nuggets brought Demarcus Cousins onto the roster in the middle of the 2021-22 season, it was seen as a move that could pay dividends due to his talent and ability to be Nikola Jokic’s backup, but also a risky one due to his hot-headed personality that had netted him a plethora of suspensions from the NBA League Office early in his career.
Since the end of the 2022 season, Cousins has been bouncing around International leagues to continue his basketball career, and has found himself playing for the Guaynabo Mets in Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional league this season. The Mets currently lead the league in points per game as a team, and Cousins’ 19 points per game are the second-best mark on the team.
While Cousins has been leading a solid offensive charge in between the lines, he got caught up in the antics of the Puerto Rican crowd the other day and got in a scuffle with fans in the crowd. It all started with him doing an obscene gesture towards a fan sitting courtside and led to a lot of popcorn being thrown by the tunnel he was walking into.

The security team at the arena did a good job at restraining the 6-foot-10 force before he could make his way into the crowd, but his initial charge looked a lot like Ron Artest’s back in the day.

There is no word yet on if Cousins will be handed a punishment from the BSN, but it would be a surprise if he got off scot free given how aggressive he acted towards the fans. Nonetheless, Nuggets fans should be happy that Cousins didn’t engage in any antics like this during his time with the Nuggets besides the one argument he had with Will Barton in the playoffs.
