The NBA Finals are tied heading to Indianapolis. The Oklahoma City Thunder rolled by the Indiana Pacers in the second quarter on the way to a 123-107 Game 2 victory.
All five Pacers starters score in double figures, with Tyrese Haliburton’s 17 leading the way. Bennedict Mathurin scores 14 off the bench.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scores 34 points with 8 assists and 4 steals to lead OKC, while Jalen Williams adds 19. Alex Caruso scores 20 and Aaron Wiggins and 18 off the bench. Chet Holmgren shakes off a poor Game 1 with 15 points. The Thunder grab 11 offensive rebounds and own an 8-rebound edge.
This result is common for the Thunder. After losses in these playoffs, they have averaged winning by 20.5 points the next time out.
Game 3 is Wednesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

4:00 left 4Q, Thunder 111, Pacers 94: Tyrese Haliburton’s 3 gives him a Pacers-leading 17 points, 12 in this quarter.
Haliburton clear path for a dunk. Jefferson asks “where was this in the first half?” I mean he hasn’t had a clear path like that all night. What’s been there in the past three minutes hasn’t been there.

8:02 left 4Q, Thunder 102, Pacers 82: OKC is getting to almost all the loose balls and getting baskets out of them. Tyrese Haliburton has 6 points in the quarter.
End 3Q, Thunder 93, Pacers 74: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Tyrese Haliburton has been passive, with 5 points on 2-of-7 shooting and 4 assists.
3:32 left 3Q, Thunder 82, Pacers 64: OKC is 10-of-24 (41.7%) on 3-pointers, the Pacers 9-of-28 (32.1%). Pascal Siakam has 15 points for the Pacers, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 22 points and 7 assists for OKC.
7:36 left 3Q, Thunder 68, Pacers 54: Myles Turner has 8 points in the quarter, but Indiana can’t cut deeply into OKC’s lead. The Pacers are in the bonus less than 2 minutes into the quarter.
Big shot by Aaron Nesmith makes it a 14-point game. Thunder feel more affirmatively control this game — whereas last game the Pacers just seemed out of control for a while — but 14 is not an unmanageable number at this stage.

Zach Osterman, IndyStar: Thunder 121-112
“It’s really difficult to see Oklahoma City going back to Indiana down 0-2. That said, the Thunder couldn’t have asked for too much more from Game 1 (atmosphere, Pacers’ mistakes, a quiet-ish game from Haliburton until the fourth) and still couldn’t take advantage. Indiana looks poised to make this a long and trying series, but the Thunder get Game 2.”
Justin Martinez, Oklahoman.com: Thunder 117-106
“OKC led for all but 0.3 seconds of Game 1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 38 points, which marked the third-most points by a player throughout league history in an NBA Finals debut. And OKC forced Indiana to commit what tied for a season-high 25 turnovers. The Pacers found a way to steal that game, but I expect the Thunder to regain control of the series Sunday with a home win.”
Albert Bainbridge IV, NorthJersey.com: Thunder 127-107
“The Thunder will respond in a big way in Game 2, coming out on top with a 20-point victory to tie the NBA Finals at 1-1 with the series now moving to Indiana next Wednesday.”
