Livingston Collegiate is staying local with it’s new boys basketball coach.
Devin White has been named the new coach of the Wolves.
A New Orleans native, White comes from Douglass, where he served since 2020 as an assistant coach under Kerwin Forges. White replaces Jernard Jarreau.
“Working at Douglass prepared me well for this opportunity,” White said. “Kerwin Forges took me under his wing and taught me a lot of things, including X’s and O’s, about people, about relationships and how to be empathetic, not sympathetic with the young men of this generation.
White started his high school career at McDonogh 35 and moved to Grambling Lab School under legendary coach Michael Lyons after Hurricane Katrina before playing at Northwestern State. White transferred home in the 2011-12 season for SUNO, where he earned honorable mention All-American honors.
“Livingston Collegiate is all about growth and to get to your best self,” White said. “Everything put in place for these students it to get to the next level and to thrive in excellence and in greatness.”
White is certain of the path to get to that point.
“The only way to build that is to be consistent and to give and earn respect by teaching responsibilities,” White said. “I’ve seen that in the daily process of the school. The kids are set up for success and I knew I wanted to be a part of it.”
White played professionally overseas for several years, including in Germany for five years before playing in China, Austria, Mexico and Luxembourg. He retired as a player in 2020.
“We are going to field great young men and give them the tools for success,” White said. “We will create daily habits to be great family young men, great in the community and to maximize their abilities. The wins will come based on our habits and consistency by taking it one day on the time.”
The Wolves were 4-21 last season.
