Sources tell ESPN’s Shams Charania that Durant’s agent and business partner, Rich Kleiman, and the Phoenix front office are assessing their various options for a Durant deal.

The Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat and New York Knicks are considered to be the primary interested parties, per Charania.
Sources have informed Charania that “several wild-card suitors” have also reached out about a possible Durant trade.
Phoenix first chatted with rival teams about a possible Durant trade in the lead-up to 2024-25 season’s February 8 trade deadline. The Golden State Warriors, with whom Durant won two titles and two Finals MVP awards in 2017 and 2018, almost reunited with Durant at the deadline — before Durant himself kiboshed the agreement upon finding out about it.

Chatter could mount as this month’s 2025 NBA Draft approaches. Durant, currently on a $54.7 million deal for 2025-26, will become eligible for a two-year contract extension worth up to $112 million starting on July 6. Should he be dealt this summer and hold off for six months, he could ink a two-year, $124 million extension, Charania reveals.
The 36-year-old league MVP averaged 26.6 points on .527/.430/.839 shooting splits, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 dimes across 62 healthy contests for Phoenix. Despite fielding the priciest NBA payroll ever (thanks to a punitive luxury tax) and three multi-time All-Stars in Durant and guards Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, the Suns finished with a 36-46 record and missed even the play-in tournament. It became clear that drastic change was needed both on the hardwood and on the sidelines.
Owner Mat Ishbia hired his fourth head coach in as many seasons, Jordan Ott, and promoted Bryan Gregory to serve as his new head coach.
Now, it appears, the Suns’ second-best player could be on the move.
