Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese is no stranger to fans and pundits being critical of her name. Since entering the WNBA in the 2024 draft, Reese has constantly been featured in debates over whether or not she\u2019s a star in the WNBA, or if she only excels at grabbing rebounds from her own missed shots.<\/p>\n

That talk has grown even more prominent this season, as Reese and the Sky are in the middle of an abysmal start to the season<\/a> that has them sitting at 3-7, near the bottom of the league standings.<\/p>\n

However, rather than let the disparaging talk concerning her game get to her, Reese is showing what makes her one of the brightest stars in the league, both on and off the court.<\/p>\n

Angel Reese recorded her first career triple-double in a win over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday and is also turning any notion that she compiles stats from her own missed field goals into what should be a lucrative trademark, filing for ownership of \u201cmebounds.\u201d As The Athletic <\/a>noted, Reese has filed a trademark application<\/a> with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhoever came up with the \u2018mebounds\u2019 thing, y\u2019all ate that up because \u2018mebounds,\u2019 rebounds, \u2018crebounds\u2019 \u2026 anything that comes off that board, it\u2019s mine,\u201d Reese said in a TikTok video. \u201cAnd a brand? That\u2019s six figures right there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMebounds\u201d stems from an episode of the popular Club 520 podcast<\/a>, which is hosted by former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague and his close friends, DJ Wells and Brandon \u201cBishop B Hen\u201d Hendricks. Hendricks coined the term when jokingly referring to Reese\u2019s uncanny ability to secure offensive rebounds after her missed shots.<\/p>\n

While the term was meant to poke fun at her, Reese is taking everything in stride.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe trolling? I love when y\u2019all do it because, like, the ideas be good,\u201d Reese said. \u201cLike, when y\u2019all have to alter my face and [expletive] because I\u2019m cute, alright, whatever. That doesn\u2019t get me. But when y\u2019all came up with \u2018mebounds\u2019 \u2014 because statistically, all the rebounds that I get aren\u2019t always just mine. They\u2019re, like, the defense\u2019s, too, or somebody else on my team. But, when y\u2019all came up with \u2018mebounds,\u2019 y\u2019all ate \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Reese\u2019s play is improving on the court as the season stretches on, and thanks to \u201cmebounds,\u201d her bottom line should be on the rise soon as well.<\/p>\n
