The NBA Draft is now just a week away and the Los Angeles Clippers’ plans for their first-round pick remain a mystery.<\/p>\n

They have needs all over their roster that can be addressed with the pick or they could choose to deal it for a veteran that can help the team win during their current core’s window, with some big names already being thrown around as trade options.<\/p>\n

If the Clippers hold on to the pick, SI.com’s Matt Brandon<\/a> believes they’ll look to use it to add depth.<\/p>\n

In a new mock draft, Brandon predicted the Clippers would use their first-round pick to select Stanford center Maxime Raynaud.<\/p>\n

I’m still not a big fan of the idea of the Clippers using their first rounder to add a player who will be resigned to a reserve role early in their career.<\/p>\n

It’s just a move that would really cap the upside of the pick for a team that has a center who played 32.8 minutes per game this past season and proved himself to be an important piece of the team’s core.<\/p>\n

Taking a first rounder whose upside will be limited doesn’t seem like a great move for the Clippers when they are really low on draft capital in the coming years.<\/p>\n

However, if the Clippers want to add a backup center through the draft, Raynaud would be one of the better fits at the position.<\/p>\n

Raynaud could give the Clippers some more scoring off the bench after averaging 20.2 points per game this past season.<\/p>\n

His ability to stretch the floor would also give them something Zubac doesn’t. Raynaud shot 34.7% from three during his final season at Stanford while attempting 5.5 threes per game.<\/p>\n

There are other needs around a shallow Clippers roster, but Raynaud could fit well in the reserve role if that’s the direction they choose.<\/p>\n
