(KMAland) — The record-breaking Simpson career for Atlantic alum Haley Rasmussen wrapped up this past winter.<\/p>\n
After four outstanding years with the Storm, Rasmussen is leaving quite the legacy behind.<\/p>\n
\u201cLooking back, it\u2019s kind of crazy,\u201d Rasmussen said. \u201cJust kind of looking at all of the awards and recognitions that I\u2019ve gotten, being in the middle of it, it\u2019s just enjoying basketball. It\u2019s just doing what I love, but it\u2019s really special to get those recognitions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rasmussen closed out her career by breaking the single-season school records for made 3-pointers (75) and 3-point percentage (51.7). That percentage proved to be the top mark across all levels of NCAA basketball.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think putting in the work over the summer (was important),\u201d Rasmussen said. \u201cJust practicing shots that I knew I was going to get, especially off the dribble. I think in games, I was taking a lot better shots than I did the previous three years, getting better looks and having a higher of chance of making those.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rasmussen put together an incredible list of honors during her career, earning two All-American Rivers Conference First Team honors and two nods on the second team. She was also a three-time CSC Academic All-District pick and was named to the All-ARC Academic Team three times. She was a two-time offensive MVP, the team MVP this past year and was the team\u2019s co-newcomer of the year as a freshman.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt means a lot,\u201d Rasmussen said of her overall career. \u201cI think a lot of people looked up to me these past two years as a leader, so I\u2019m just glad that those younger players can see how I put in the work. I just tried to encourage them to fill those shoes and just know that you\u2019re going to get rewarded for the work that you put in.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rasmussen is now set to begin a career in education and potentially in coaching.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to be a fourth-grade teacher here in Indianola,\u201d Rasmussen said. \u201cI\u2019m staying around the area and possibly going to do some coaching for basketball in the future, as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
