There a wide range of outcomes, including many possible trade scenarios that could change the landscape. It was the Mavericks who <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/2025\/05\/12\/mavericks-getting-top-2025-nba-draft-pick-sparked-all-conspiracies\/83589404007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">shockingly got the opportunity<\/a>, and we shouldn\u2019t expect them to <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/2025\/05\/13\/nba-draft-lottery-dallas-mavericks-cooper-flagg-trade-rumors-giannis-antetokounmpo\/83605671007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">trade the pick<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Flagg was long considered the favorite at No. 1 overall (<a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/2022\/07\/19\/nba-draft-cooper-flagg-montverde-maine-usa-fiba-peach-jam-eybl\/81303000007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">we wrote about it when he was 15 years old<\/a>) and he made that even more clear when he <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/2024\/07\/09\/cooper-flagg-team-usa-basketball-olympics-highlights\/74337198007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">dominated against Team USA<\/a> during a friendly scrimmage before they won <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/olympics\/2024\/08\/10\/13-photos-mens-usa-basketball-team-celebrating-gold-paris-olympics\/74753919007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">gold at the Olympics<\/a>. He then <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/ncaab\/2025\/03\/21\/cooper-flagg-duke-5-things-to-know\/82593002007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">exceeded all expectations<\/a> while he was in college, accomplishing just about everything <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/ncaab\/2025\/04\/06\/duke-houston-final-four-highlights-collapse-choke\/82962339007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">except winning a national championship<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Something that NBA fans should adore about Flagg: While the Mavericks reportedly decided long before they met with him that <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/2025\/05\/13\/nba-draft-lottery-dallas-mavericks-cooper-flagg-trade-rumors-giannis-antetokounmpo\/83605671007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">he was their pick <\/a>at No. 1 overall, <a href=\"https:\/\/marcstein.substack.com\/p\/the-latest-nba-draft-intel-kevin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">according to The Stein Line<\/a>, he still \u201cinsisted\u201d that he still work out on the court for the team and he \u201cmade a very favorable\u201d impression.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe doesn\u2019t turn it off. Instead, they could get someone with legitimate star potential to pair with Victor Wembanyama.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/ncaab\/2025\/03\/18\/dylan-harper-interview-nba-draft-rutgers-ace-bailey\/82513348007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">For The Win spoke to Harper<\/a> earlier this year and he described how he developed his fantastic ability to become such a dynamic scorer at the rim. Philadelphia 76ers: V.J. Edgecombe\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>TEAM: Baylor<\/p>\n<p>POSITION: Wing<\/p>\n<p>HEIGHT: 6&#8242; 4.00&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>DRAFT AGE: 19.9<\/p>\n<p>After a <a href=\"https:\/\/therookiewire.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/rookie\/2024\/07\/02\/bahamas-vj-edgecombe-olympic-qualifier-finland\/77593760007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">strong performance for the Bahamas<\/a> during the Olympic qualifiers last year, V.J. Edgecombe became a name to watch for scouts and evaluators.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the start of the NCAA season, he showed a lot of promise as a defensive player, though that actually slowed down a bit as his freshman campaign progressed. However, while at Baylor, he <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/ncaab\/2024\/12\/05\/nba-draft-vj-edgecombe-baylor-bears-philly-sixers\/76803589007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">also showed promise as one of the bounciest scorers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While the Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly<a href=\"https:\/\/sixerswire.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/sixers\/2025\/06\/18\/report-rutgers-ace-bailey-cancels-visit-with-sixers-ahead-of-draft\/84270614007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> not met with Ace Bailey<\/a> yet, Edgecombe did travel for a private workout. He \u201cimpressed\u201d during this environment, <a href=\"https:\/\/hoopshype.com\/rumor\/3706567\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">per The Philadelphia Inquirer<\/a>. Kon Knueppel<\/p>\n<p>TEAM: Duke<\/p>\n<p>POSITION: Wing<\/p>\n<p>HEIGHT: 6&#8242; 5.00&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>DRAFT AGE: 19.9<\/p>\n<p>In the event that the 76ers do not pick Edgecombe and he is still on the board, the organization <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mikelacett\/status\/1935727530398388599\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">may target him<\/a> over Bailey as a defensive anchor. He reportedly had an \u201cexcellent\u201d interview for the team during the 2025 NBA Draft Combine, <a href=\"https:\/\/therookiewire.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/rookie\/2025\/05\/31\/baylor-vj-edgecombe-nba-draft-hornets-interview\/83965785007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">per Yahoo\u2019s Kevin O\u2019Connor<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But assuming he is off the board, Duke\u2019s Kon Knueppel is an ideal candidate. The Hornets \u201cappear to have interest\u201d in the ACC tournament MVP, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/45515479\/2025-nba-mock-draft-59-picks-trade-talks-heat-30-teams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">according to ESPN\u2019s Jonathan Givony<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I try to focus on all the little things,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/2025\/06\/17\/kon-knueppel-nba-draft-duke-basketball-bill-simmons-cooper-flagg\/84241766007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Knueppel recently told For The Win<\/a>. &#8220;I\u2019m going to make it as hard on the guy that\u2019s got the ball that I\u2019m guarding. I\u2019m going to make it super hard on him. I\u2019m going to box out. I\u2019m going to rebound. I\u2019m going to get a loose ball. Those things add up. Utah Jazz: Tre Johnson\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>TEAM: Texas<\/p>\n<p>POSITION: Wing<\/p>\n<p>HEIGHT: 6&#8242; 4.75&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>DRAFT AGE: 19.3<\/p>\n<p>It is hard to predict what kind of decisions Austin Ainge will make in his <a href=\"https:\/\/celticswire.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/celtics\/2025\/06\/02\/report-celtics-austin-ainge-to-be-jazz-president-of-basketball-ops\/83991117007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">new role as an executive for the Jazz<\/a>. For example, Duke big man Khaman Maluach is considered a \u201cpotential draftee\u201d for Utah, <a href=\"https:\/\/marcstein.substack.com\/p\/how-far-might-ace-bailey-fall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">via The Stein Line<\/a>. This would give Utah the flexibility to potentially trade center Walker Kessler.<\/p>\n<p>Texas freshman Tre Johnson, however, is another player who is <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/2025\/05\/06\/nba-mock-draft-jeremiah-fears-tre-johnson-ace-bailey-cooper-flagg-dylan-harper-lottery\/83475390007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reportedly gaining significant momentum<\/a> in the pre-draft process so far.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Johnson was named SEC Freshman of the Year because he is such a natural scorer whose passing is better than his assist stats might suggest. He is very difficult to stop in the open-court and led all freshmen in 3-pointers made in transition (21) and above the break (65) this season, <a href=\"https:\/\/cbbanalytics.com\/stats\/38409\/division\/d1\/player-pbp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">per CBB Analytics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He measured with a nearly plus-six (6-foot-10) wingspan at the 2025 NBA Draft Combine, which should help him in the pros. Johnson also recorded the fastest lane agility time (10.49 seconds) at the 2025 NBA Draft Combine and his upside makes him a good option for a franchise like the Jazz.<\/p>\n<p>TEAM: Oklahoma<\/p>\n<p>POSITION: Guard<\/p>\n<p>HEIGHT: 6&#8242; 2.50&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>DRAFT AGE: 18.7<\/p>\n<p>Oklahoma freshman Jeremiah Fears has reportedly had <a href=\"https:\/\/scoopb.com\/2025\/06\/jeremiah-fears-set-for-second-pre-draft-workout-today-with-the-utah-jazz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">multiple workouts with the Jazz<\/a>, who are on the clock immediately before the Wizards. But if Utah decides to go a different direction, don\u2019t expect Fears to wait long to hear his name called. His mentality helps explain why.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whoever picks me on draft night, you guys are going to be getting a dog,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/videos\/sports\/sports-seriously\/2025\/06\/11\/jeremiah-fears-enters-nba-draft-as-one-of-the-youngest-prospects\/84148074007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Fears recently told For The Win<\/a>. &#8220;Somebody that&#8217;s going to come in, work hard, bring star power, and give it his all every time they step on the court.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fears gave fans some amazing highlights as he climbed up draft boards this season. He deservedly received SEC All-Freshman honors, can score at multiple levels from the floor, and he is a fantastic playmaker on both offense and defense as well.<\/p>\n<p>The guard is the second-youngest NCAA prospect we have projected in the first round behind only Flagg and was still one of the best overall performers in March Madness.<\/p>\n<p>He was one of the fastest players at the 2025 NBA Draft Combine, recording a 3.05-second three-quarter sprint.<\/p>\n<p>TEAM: Maryland<\/p>\n<p>POSITION: Big<\/p>\n<p>HEIGHT: 6&#8242; 9.25&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>DRAFT AGE: 20.5<\/p>\n<p>The New Orleans Pelicans are another difficult team to predict in the 2025 NBA Draft because they have a new front office <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/2025\/05\/28\/zion-williamson-trade-pelicans-unlikely-rumors\/83900217007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">led by Joe Dumars<\/a>. But the Pelicans do have <a href=\"https:\/\/therookiewire.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/rookie\/2025\/06\/18\/maryland-derik-queen-nba-draft-pelicans\/84268303007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">rumored interest in Queen<\/a> and he was one of the \u201cheadliners\u201d of a workout with the organization, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbabigboard.com\/p\/front-office-intel-player-buzz-and\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">per NBA Big Board\u2019s Rafael Barlowe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Queen was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and proved his versatility and eye-catching skill set as a big man who is incredibly fun to watch. Then after recording perhaps the <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/ncaab\/2025\/03\/23\/derik-queen-im-from-baltimore-maryland-colorado-state-march-madness\/82630303007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">biggest moment of the NCAA men\u2019s basketball tournament<\/a>, Queen <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/ncaab\/2025\/03\/24\/derik-queen-maryland-nba-draft-projections\/82633878007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">skyrocketed his draft status<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While his athletic testing was less than desirable at the 2025 NBA Draft Combine, he plays at his own speed and could provide a unique addition for any roster.<\/p>\n<p>Yahoo&#8217;s Kevin O&#8217;Connor reported that &#8220;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most front-office executives<\/a>&#8221; believe Ace Bailey is their target, even if it means they need to make a trade. Brooklyn Nets: Ace Bailey\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>TEAM: Rutgers<\/p>\n<p>POSITION: Forward<\/p>\n<p>HEIGHT: 6&#8242; 7.50&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>DRAFT AGE: 18.9<\/p>\n<p>There is a lot to unpack about why <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/2025\/06\/17\/ace-bailey-nba-mock-draft-stock-espn-bleacher-report-rutgers-stats\/84243824007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ace Bailey\u2019s draft stock is apparently plummeting lately<\/a>, especially after he measured <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/2025\/05\/12\/ace-bailey-height-wingspan-nba-draft-combine-measurements-rutgers-basketball\/83586836007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a bit shorter than expected at the 2025 NBA Draft Combine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While this is much lower than where he was projected in <a href=\"https:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/2025\/06\/12\/nba-mock-draft-espn-athletic-bleacher-report-fox-ringer-yahoo\/84153597007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">our latest consensus rankings<\/a> at No. 3 overall earlier this month, fans shouldn\u2019t expect him to fall much lower than this.
