{"id":114930,"date":"2025-06-21T18:59:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-21T18:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/114930\/"},"modified":"2025-06-21T18:59:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-21T18:59:10","slug":"round-rock-hosts-national-deaf-basketball-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/114930\/","title":{"rendered":"Round Rock hosts national deaf basketball championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Round Rock is proudly hosting this year\u2019s National Deaf Basketball Championship, where deaf athletes from across the country are competing\u2014not just for cash prizes, but for something much bigger than basketball.<\/p>\n<p>The National Deaf Basketball Organization (NDBO) began in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the tournament features 38 men\u2019s teams and 14 women\u2019s teams\u2014a testament to the sport\u2019s growing popularity in the deaf community.<\/p>\n<p>Family is a recurring theme in this organization. Quentin Murphy, who played in the league\u2019s early days and now serves as a coach and team owner, emphasizes that philosophy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy philosophy is that we\u2019re a family. Basketball comes last. What matters is that they\u2019re doing well, staying healthy, and working out,\u201d said Murphy.<\/p>\n<p>Teams have traveled from coast to coast, and the sense of community is strong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe come here, we grow, we meet more people. It\u2019s wonderful to see,\u201d said one player.<\/p>\n<p>Even the referees are deaf, coming from all over the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are visual people.
