The San Antonio Spurs have some pretty clear needs this offseason. First of all, they need to add center depth behind Victor Wembanyama. This could be accomplished in either the draft or free agency.<\/p>\n

After that, they need to add shooting around guard De’Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, and Stephon Castle. Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, and Julian Champagnie are all solid scorers and perimeter players, although in the modern NBA, it’s hard to have too many shooters.<\/p>\n

The Spurs could turn to a familiar trade partner, the Sacramento Kings, and add a wing before Wednesday’s draft.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Kings have expressed a desire to acquire a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, league sources told HoopsHype,” wrote Michael Scotto<\/a>. “Amid those conversations, Sacramento has gauged the trade market on guards Malik Monk and Devin Carter, sources said.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Spurs could offer Keldon Johnson and pick number 14 in the draft for Monk, who averaged 17.2 points last season. In the two years before that, he posted 14.4 points and shot a solid 35.4 percent from deep while coming off the bench.<\/p>\n

He is signed through 2027-28 with a player option in his final year. On the Spurs, he would likely replace Johnson as the sixth man, giving them an upgraded rotation.<\/p>\n

The Spurs, in theory, could start Fox, Castle, Vassell, Barnes, and Wembanyama and enjoy a second unit of Harper, Monk, Champagnie, Jeremy Sochan, and whoever they sign to bolster the frontcourt. Clint Capela or Brook Lopez, perhaps?<\/p>\n

The Spurs have long been linked to superstars like Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo, although with Durant traded to the Houston Rockets and Giannis yet to demand a trade, adding Monk could be a solid middle ground.<\/p>\n
