Exec Explains"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mike Zarren doesn\u2019t yet know how Max Shulga will transition to the league, but those in the Boston Celtics front office have watched Shulga have success everywhere else.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s just a winner,\u201d the Celtics vice president of basketball operations told reporters after the 2025 NBA Draft concluded Thursday night, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ijiKV8iq1eo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">per NBC Sports Boston<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And because of that the Celtics\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2025\/06\/celtics-draft-decorated-college-player-to-round-out-2025-class\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">added Shulga with the 57th overall pick<\/a>. The VCU guard (6-foot-4, 206 pounds) technically was drafted by the Orlando Magic, but will head to Boston with the not-yet-finalized second-round trade soon to be official.<\/p>\n<p>Shulga was named the Atlantic-10 Player of the Year in 2024-25. He was recognized as an All-Atlantic-10 selection during each of his two seasons at VCU. The native of Kyiv, Ukraine, averaged 15.0 points and 4.0 assists during his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/max-shulga-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">final college season.<\/a> He shot 39.2% from long range during his college career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMax is a tough guy who can handle and shoot,\u201d Zarren said. \u201cElite, elite toughness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Zarren shared Shulga moved to Spain when he was 13 years old to play basketball. He started his college career at Utah State and he played one season with now Celtics teammate Neemias Queta. <\/p>\n<p>Boston acquired the rights to Nos. 46 and 57 after <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2025\/06\/nba-draft-rumors-celtics-traded-back-after-missing-desired-prospect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">they traded back<\/a> with the Orlando Magic. Orlando also sent Boston two future second-round picks, ultimately granting the Green three additional seconds for No. 32 overall.
