Caitlin Clark<\/a> has been named a WNBA<\/a> All-Star Game captain by being one of the two players receiving the most fan votes, the league announced on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Clark and Minnesota<\/a> Lynx star\u00a0Napheesa Collier will now have the opportunity to draft from a pool of the other WNBA All-Stars to create two teams ahead of the festivities next month.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Clark gets her second All-Star selection in her sophomore professional season, having represented ‘Team WNBA’ in last year’s extravaganza against Team USA<\/a> before the Paris Olympics<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The remaining eight All-Star starters, who will be divided evenly between Team Clark and Team Collier, will be revealed on Monday night.\u00a0The rest of the All-Star field will be picked by the league’s head coaches.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The WNBA All-Star Game takes place July 19 from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, in what should be a rabid, pro-Clark atmosphere.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Clark has sat out the Indiana<\/a> Fever’s last two games with a groin injury and could return to the court as soon as Tuesday’s Commissioner’s Cup Final against the Lynx.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Clark received the honor by being one of the two players receiving the most fan votes<\/p>\n

Clark was the leading fan vote-getter with 1,293,526, with Collier in second place with 1,176,020 votes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Collier leads the WNBA in scoring with a career-high 24.5 points per game, leading Minnesota to a 13-2 overall record. When Clark has seen the floor this season, she has 18.9 points per game and 8.9 assists per game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Clark and Collier’s picks for their teams will be revealed on July 8, first picking from the starters, then dipping into the reserves.\u00a0The two teams with the best records, regardless of conference, will be the bench bosses for the All-Star Game.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

No long-term declaration to Clark’s health has been made, with a win against the Lynx would hand the Fever their first trophy since winning the WNBA Championship in 2012, making Clark’s health for that contest paramount.<\/p>\n

Before Clark’s second multi-game injury absence of the season<\/a>, her teammates were rallying around her after a few dismal performances.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite Clark’s injury-return game against the New York Liberty on June 14, after missing five games, and the scrappy contest against the\u00a0Connecticut<\/a> Sun a few days later, the WNBA<\/a> phenom’s usually sharpshooting touch has been anything but ironclad.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Against the Seattle Storm, Clark was 3-for-13 from the field, including an 0-of-6 mark from 3-point range.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the Fever’s two previous games before Tuesday night’s victory, Clark combined for a 1-of-17 mark from beyond the arc, an unimaginable two-game line by the lofty standards set by the point guard.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n
